Get to know Brit & Court, the dynamic duo behind Slay La Vie. Let’s take it way, way, way back and play ‘21 Questions’ (more like 18 though)! What better way to get to know someone?!
Where are you from and how old are you?
B: I was born in Chicago but live in the south suburbs and I’m 24 years old.
C: I’m originally from the south suburbs of Chicago, and I’m 22.
How did you two meet?
B: I was a modeling for a friend’s new t-shirt line and Court was the MUA and for some reason we just clicked!
C: We met at a photoshoot for a mutual friend, for her new business venture. After that day we have been friends ever since!
What made you start a blog together?
B: Courtney and I are VERY similar. We’re both silly, a lil bougie and EXTRA as hell. And not to mention we both have experience blogging so it was kinda like ‘why not?’ SO I pitched the idea to her and the rest is HERstory.
C: It was first Brit’s idea and then I was ready to go from her pitch. We were both bloggers previously and I feel like we would be good for a duo. We have so much in common, we clicked from the beginning and we are both dependable so I was very excited to start the blog! I don’t have much doubts we wouldn’t be successful.
If you had to describe yourself in 5 words, what would they be?
B: Creative, kind hearted, loyal, determined, and personable.
C: Motivated, head strong, assertive, trustworthy, and friendly.
What’s your favorite color?
B: My favorite color is pink, all shades. It’s classic, timeless, feminine, vibrant, tenacious, etc, etc.
C: My favorite color is pale pink, I love the color because its soft and reminds me of how I always want to be, even though that sounds odd. I always like to be friendly and open when I’m meeting people and starting new relationships and I want to give a friendly vibe.
What is your favorite place to shop?
B: I shop at multiple places for multiple things and reasons but if I had to choose, some of my fave places would be Akira, Nordstrom, Forever 21, Urban Outfitters and H&M.
C: My favorite place to shop is anywhere that has affordable fashion. I also love to shop where there are bags and purses of all kinds. Honestly I should stop shopping so much!
What was your upbringing like?
B: I was raised by my mom and lived with my big sisters who are 13 & 15 years older than me. All of my life I was surrounded by strong, independent & driven woman who instilled those same qualities in me.
C: I lived with both of my parents until I was 16 and they were seperated. My parents taught me alot about who I am and honestly responsible for me being the person I am today. I always had the support I needed and acceptance.
Which of your parents are you most like and why?
B: I’m more like my mom, particularly because she raised me. We’re both quiet and observant. My mom is also very creative and has always let my sisters and I express ourselves through arts and crafts. She’s a very strong woman and taught us the value of obtaining things on our own.
C: I’m more like my mom, she is a business woman and she is always consistent, where she doesn’t let anything unnecessary affect her work life. She knows how to keep things separate from business and I love that I have acquired that trait as well.
What accomplishment are you most proud of and why?
B: So far, I am most proud of my weight loss. I’ve been overweight most of my life and since 2016 I lost 40+ pounds and have been able to keep it off.
C: I am most proud of where I am in life. I have made it to the end of my college career and I am happy I am still surviving despite the obstacles I had to face alone.
What goals do you have for the next five years?
B: In the next five years I hope to be graduating from medical school and beginning residency at my top match.
C: I want to be graduated from Law School with a job at an agency or at a big company in Entertainment as an agent, and owning a seperate business.
What’s on your bucket list? Top 5!
B: The top 5 things on my bucket list is to become a doctor, go to Paris, visit the Taj Mahal, have published photography, and have a successful blog.
C: The top five things on my bucket list are to go to Law School, get an internship at an agency, graduate from undergraduate school, have a successful blog and travel somewhere i’ve never been.
What do you feel passionate about?
B: I’m most passionate about helping others and improving communities. As a physician, I want to work in an underserved population and make an impact by providing the best healthcare possible.
C: I feel most passionate about giving back and leaving a legacy, I want to make a difference, I want to be able to use my platform as a lawyer for the arts to lookout for artist in general to be able to help them succeed.
What makes you wildly happy?
B: I’m happiest when I’m creating and and getting my hands dirty. I like to refer to myself as the Jane of all trades, meaning I’m capable of doing a lot of things. My happiest moments are perfecting my crafts.
C: Being with a good support of friends and in a calm setting makes me happy, I find you are happiest when everyone around you is stable and happy and is in a good mood and there is serenity.
What advice would you give your younger self?
B: The advice I would give my younger self is to live for yourself and not anyone else. Make decisions with YOUR best interest at heart.
C: I would tell my younger self to always stay true to yourself and never let anyone sway how you feel about yourself. Also keep positive company around you.
What does Slay La Vie mean to you?
B: To me, SLV means to slay life (literally). Go through life with your best foot forward and make an impact on the world.
C: SLV means to be yourself and not change anything about yourself, its about lifestyle, beauty and fashion.
