I haven’t been thrifting in years and lately I have been itching to go! So I decided to have a little ‘me day’ and take myself to Chicago’s Bucktown neighborhood to explore some new thrift stores. I set a $100 budget and went to four thrift stores. The first two were your traditional thrift stores while the last two were the more modern, high end, trade in/resale stores. Keep reading to see where I went, what I got, and how much over my budget I went…
The night before I mapped out my route and picked Monarch Thrift Shop, Village Discount Outlet Store, Crossroads Trading Co., and Buffalo Exchange. Total budget: $100. (this was real cute lol)
1st stop: Monarch Thrift Shop | 2866 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60618
At Monarch I got a black and white pattern skirt and a black and grey wrap shirt, which happened to be BOGO! The wrap shirts are also both originally from Forever 21.
Total spent: $13.21
Next stop: Village Discount Outlet Store | 2032 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60647
I’ve been to Village a couple times in the past and always get my hands on the most random items. This time around I got green stirrup pants, Levi denim shorts, a yellow skater skirt and a pink and green hat brooch.
Total spent: $15.51
Next stop: Crossroads Trading Co. | 1519 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60622
I walked in and was immediately obsessed because Crossroads has a wide variety of brands, styles and trends in very good condition! From here I got a Lush green floral shirt, a yellow sleeveless Ralph Lauren button up, a black and red floral dress from ASOS and this bomb leather studded backpack that I now use as my camera bag.
Total spent: $71.41
At this point, I realized I don’t have any self control even when thrifting. I should have stopped here considering I was already 13 cents over my budget. Nope! I kept going.
Last stop: Buffalo Exchange | 1478 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60622
Like Crossroads, Buffalo Exchange has a lot of good clothing brands. Since I didn’t want to go too over budget I only got this halter romper originally from a Akira and a camo hat. I also paid $2 for this reusable shopping bag!
Total spent: $23.43
Total spent for the day: $123.56
By the end of the day I was super tired but the trip was very successful! Yes I went over budget but I discovered a couple new places that I’d love to return to. I can’t wait to wear everything this spring and summer! Do you enjoy thrifting? Let me know some of your favorite places to thrift at in the comments.
